Intro

Welcome to The Beet Organic Café! We opened our doors on February 5th, 2008, and what a fabulous response we've had from the community!

We are an organic café, with a menu designed by owners Michelle Vella, Certified Nutritionist and Heather Osler, Homeopathic Doctor to combine optimum nutrition with dynamite flavour.

From our sustainable interior design to our packaging, which is 100% biodegradable, we have gone that extra mile to make The Beet an eco-friendly venture.

Our mission is to support local farmers by providing fresh local produce whenever possible. We carry imported items that are Certified Fair Trade and take pride in being a socially responsible business.

If you have not yet visited us, please pop in to taste our delicious spread of organic dishes!

About Us

By Owners Michelle Vella, Certified Nutritional Practitioner and Heather Osler, Homeopathic Doctor

The Beet seed was planted a couple of years ago, when we were practicing together at The Bloor West Homeopathic and Wellness Clinic. For years we had been recommending nutritional protocols and dietary changes to our patients.

While they were delighted to get started on a new adventure of healthy eating, many of them hit a road block not knowing how to prepare these new dishes that they could hardly pronounce like “quinoa” or “kamut”! With such little time to devote to cooking as it is, most families found it a real challenge to find the recommended foods, and get used to cooking it in a way that wouldn’t make everyone gag!

The other obstacle we faced was trying to convince people that organic produce was not well represented in most grocery stores where it typically looks old, wilted, and downright pathetic. Actually, organic produce looks bright and beautiful when sold properly, as anyone who has been to one of the organic farmer’s markets in the city can attest.

Through these obstacles we encountered in our practice, and the desire to have somewhere that the neighbourhood could count on for good quality nutritious meals, our idea was born.

We decided to go a step further than our practice at the clinic, and create that one-stop shop to make healthy eating an enjoyable and convenient experience.

What has also been our priority from the get-go is our commitment to ethical and environmental practices. So, you won’t find hardwood from the rainforest or styrofoam packaging in our spot! From our interior design to our packaging, which is 100% biodegradable, we have gone that extra mile to make The Beet an eco-friendly venture.
